Christians have been prattling on about the Second Coming, Armageddon, and the End of Days, for almost 2,000 years.
But it looks as though the End of Days may finally be upon us.
Nothing to do with Christians, of course, except to the extent that they have supported capitalism and the conservatives which have allowed industries to rape the environment, pollute the water and air, clear-cut the rainforests, poison the oceans, and destroy 40% of all life on Earth over the past 40 years.
The End of Days is not some make-believe tale about sky wizards and fairies. It is the result of capitalism, human greed, stupidity, fascist governments, and international corporations and banks.
It is the Sixth Mass Extinction in Earth’s 4.5 billion year history.
And this extinction will take us out along with the thousands of species that go extinct every week.
There is little chance of reversing global warming or the environmental degradation that capitalists have caused. Our enemies are not only the industries that have wreaked havoc with the environment, but the conservative lawmakers and pundits who are fighting to allow the destruction of the Earth to continue.
Capitalism requires an unending stream of natural resources, raw materials, forests, oceans, animal corpses, and deluded consumers to function. It is like a cancer which slowly consumes, and them kills, its host.
And capitalism is killing the planet. In the process it is exterminating species of plants and animals at a rate not seen for 65 million years.
And right wing Christians are unmoved by the information, as they think they are all going to be swept up in a cloud to meet Jesus before the end comes. So they continue to support lunatic conservatives and Republicans. They don’t give a damn about the environment, or the Earth’s wildlife, or the Earth’s non-Christian people.
They suffer from a mass psychosis that is impenetrable by logic, science, history, or reason.
The irony is that their delusions may actually prove to be true.
We may indeed be in the End Times.
