Building a Resource for Radicals and Animal Rights Activists

What little promotion that has been given to the Armory has been done on Facebook, where friends and I have been sharing links to each Armory article as they are published. All the time and effort expended has yielded relatively modest results.

The Facebook platform itself is not conducive to in depth discussion or analysis of issues. Notifications are fleeting and vague. The Like button function is worthless. Communication is limited to a tiny percentage of friends. Calls to action and important alerts are given no priority over chatter. I will be phasing out most of my presence on Facebook over the coming weeks or months, instead devoting my time to turning Armory of the Revolution into an organization rather than a one-man band.

The mission of Armory of the Revolution is to radicalize the animal movement. To force us to recognize that our present courses of action are not working, that more animals are suffering and dying than ever before in human history, that we need a paradigm shift in our goals and methodologies.

All the dogs and cats that have been rescued and saved by the animal movement in the past 50 years are fewer than the number of animals who will die in slaughterhouses in the next 8 hours!

A generous estimate of the number of dogs and cats saved by the animal movement is an average of a million per year over the past 50 years. Fifty million in total. Statistics reflecting the number murdered in shelters in the US has dropped from some 400,000 per year fifty years ago to about 40,000 per year today give us a rough estimate that rescuers have saved some 18,000,000 dogs and cats.

Extrapolating those numbers to Australia, the UK, western Europe, Canada, etc, suggests a similar achievement at best. Given that the rest of the world has done very little, a very generous guesstimate of 14,000,000 would bring the total number saved to 50 million. The actual figure is quite likely very well below that number.

Upwards of 60 thousand million (60 Billion) animals have their throats cut in slaughterhouses annually.

Which equals 1.153 billion animals murdered per week (eleven hundred fifty three million).

Which equals 165 million murdered per day! Almost seven million per hour! More than 50 million will die in the next 8 hours. More than the number of dogs and cats saved by the entire animal movement in the past 50 years.

There all all too few hours each day we can devote to the animals. I spend most of mine on Facebook, trying to recruit followers to the Armory of the Revolution, and posting observations and apothegms with some frequency. I post every couple of days to over 200 groups, pages, and friends’ timelines. I interact with all who comment on my posts.

Even so, subscriptions to the Armory are only a fraction of my Facebook friends. I must change my entire approach to social media if the Armory blog is ever to grow in influence and subscribers.

I hope to attract the participation of other writers, philosophers, revolutionary thinkers, social and political analysts, strategists, organizers, and propagandists.

I hope to build the Armory into the foremost resource for social revolutionaries in the country. The primary tool for radicals in the animal movement. The brain trust for Animal Rights.

To achieve that goal, the Armory must become more than just my own modest writings and opinions.

It must become a central library of revolutionary thought, of utilitarian philosophy, of strategic planning, of political and social analysis, of long and short term tactics and goals.

I hope to start organizing outreach programs that will extend far beyond the confines of Facebook, and will put the Armory in front of thousands of animal activists unfamiliar with the blog. My time will be much more efficiently spent on such projects than it is now being spent on Facebook.
