Thought Of TheDay. December 31, 2015

Instead of posting status updates on Facebook, I am now posting each apothegm, thought, observation, and witticism, here, as a Thought Of The Day.

Status updates on Facebook disappear into the ether and cannot be relocated by readers.

Today’s Thought:

All social movements have internal struggles for the control of their directions. The Abolitionists were divided on boycotting slave products, on the Underground Railroad, on Brown’s raid at Harper’s Ferry. Leninists disagreed with Trotsky, MLK had an entirely different approach to the civil rights movement than did Malcolm.

My premise is all we have done has amounted to nothing. All the animals saved by animal activists around the world for the past 50 years is less than the number who will be murdered in slaughterhouses in the next 8 hours. Continuing to recruit vegans and educate the public one-on-one is a fool’s errand. It doesn’t work. It cannot work.

I believe the animals would be better off if we cast the dice for vigilantism and revolution.

Author’s Notes:

I am unaware of any other blog with the Armory’s mission of radicalizing the animal movement. I certainly hope I am not alone, and that there are similar sentiments being expressed by comrades unknown to me.

If you know of other blogs dedicated to animal rights and the defeat of capitalism, please comment with a link.

You will find recommended reading on Animal Rights, revolutionary theory, politics, economics, religion, science, and atheism. There is also a section of supplies for animal liberationists, hunt saboteurs, and social revolutionaries. This is all brand new, and we will be adding lots more merchandise in the near future!

Feel free to comment. I encourage open discussion and welcome other opinions. I moderate comments because this blog has been attacked by hunters and right wing trolls. I approve comments that are critical as well as those which agree with me. Comments that I will not tolerate are those that are spam, threatening, disrespectful, or which promote animal abuse and cruelty

  1. Roland,
You are right. maybe revolution or vigilantism is the only way. The AR movement isn’t a movement. Revolution can only work if there are enough people willing to revolt. And the AR movement is too small, too diffuse, too dissonant, to revolt. My solution, which is as far fetched as a revolution, is if the hundreds of groups could somehow pool some of their money to fight lobbyists, pool person-power, and pool energies to fight for some, unknown, common goal. I don’t see your solution, or mine, or any other one, working. And for sure, turning people to veganism is a losing battle too.

  2. “… cast the dice for vigilantism and revolution.”

Couldn’t agree more. By any objective measure you care to cite, the “bad guys” are winning everywhere in the world today. One can wring one’s hands and accept what seems to be the inevitable triumph of evil over good, or, one can FIGHT.

One question to you as a lawyer: just how explicit can one be on the Internet in advocating for some vigilante justice, both in terms of targeting and method of remediation, before one runs afoul of the law?

    • You run afoul of protected free speech if you incite violence or call for the commission of a specific crime, which in fact is formulated if not committed. General calls for direct action or revolution are protected by the First Amendment.

  3. Interesting outcomes for activists and revolutionaries: John Brown was hanged. Trotsky got an ax in the head. MLK and Malcolm were both assassinated.

I can understand animal activists as vigilantes and I can see this as their fate.
