Thought Of The Day. January 25, 2016

Instead of posting status updates on Facebook, I am now posting each apothegm, thought, observation, and witticism, here, as a Thought Of The Day.

Today’s Thought:

Politics is an arena in which we do battle. It is not a litmus test of all we believe. It is a series of skirmishes and conflicts from which we hope to emerge having accomplished something for the animals. It affords us the chance to recruit others and to marginally improve the lives of the oppressed, both animals and people.
Supporting third party efforts is akin to falling on our own swords, to no advantage other than our own egos and stubbornness.
What exactly do you think would be accomplished by a vegan third party candidate? If you think you will succeed in getting out the word you could not be more wrong, as the media will ignore Roberts, and anyone whom he could reach will have already been in the fold.

Author’s Notes:

I am unaware of any other blog with the Armory’s mission of radicalizing the animal movement. I certainly hope I am not alone, and that there are similar sentiments being expressed by comrades unknown to me.

If you know of other blogs dedicated to animal rights and the defeat of capitalism, please comment with a link.

• Be sure to follow the Armory and share it with your Facebook friends and email contacts, as well as on Twitter, Google, and all other social media platforms. Our influence and effectiveness is dependent upon you!

• Be sure to visit Armory of the Revolution’s new commissary and bookstore: The Supply Depot

You will find recommended reading on Animal Rights, revolutionary theory, politics, economics, religion, science, and atheism. There is also a section of supplies for animal liberationists, hunt saboteurs, and social revolutionaries. This is all brand new, and we will be adding lots more merchandise in the near future!

Feel free to comment. I encourage open discussion and welcome other opinions. I moderate comments because this blog has been attacked by hunters and right wing trolls. I approve comments that are critical as well as those which agree with me. Comments that I will not tolerate are those that are spam, threatening, disrespectful, or which promote animal abuse and cruelty

  1. While it’s hard to break up fossilized political structures, it CAN be done – best from within, but that’s another issue.
This “third party controversy” sounds very familiar to me – we had the exactly same discussions and argumentations about the “Green” movement over here in Europe. By now they ARE a political force to reckon with, but that did take it’s time (and lots of effort, hard work, persuation, endless discussions… and sheer stubbornness. And, yes, luck, as in being at the right place in the right time and doing the right thing when the right opportunity arose. And things ARE easier in countries with DIVERSE media coverage.)
In the USA, in the current political situation, ANY “alternative” candidate would stand a snowball’s chance in hell – no positive, or at least neutral, media coverage, no voter base to speak of, a too small, divided movement to build on. There ARE movements, they just need to work together to move anything!
A green vegan party would need to start from scrap – and first be successful on local levels, taking over towns, then districts and so on, BEFORE striking nationally. And that will take a long, long time. An entirely TOO long time for the upcoming elections.
So, for NOW, I tend to agree that a “vegan candidate” wouldn’t work.
The “United States green vegan environment-protection anti-corporate animal-rights” party will, however, be a sheer necessity in the future.

    • In parliamentary systems minor parties can thrive and be relevant. They can join coalitions, participate in government, and can be instrumental in ringing governments down. Such a system does not exist in the US. Here, third parties are irrelevant the day after elections and serve no useful purpose during elections.

Rather than building a national party from scratch (which hasn’t been done in US history) it would be much easier and more productive to take over the Democratic party. And we have the opportunity to begin that process with Bernie Sanders.

      • The USA – and the world… – desperately NEED a counter-force opposing the kind of brute-force capitalism that has taken over in recent deacades again. Currently, the sheer, unbridled profit motive is running AMOK over the lives of animals and humans alike, bound to destroy the world we ALL are living in and from, for basically imaginary stock market values and dots on some screen believed to be “wealth”.
We all are caught in a gigantic game of make-believe and mistake it for reality.
