Nina Turner has Eclipsed Elizabeth Warren with Progressives

nina

Progressives are outraged that Elizabeth Warren has thrown in with the whore.

Many of us wanted her to challenge Hillary for the Democratic nomination. We engaged in a fierce campaign to convince her to run. She declined.

We turned our attention and allegiance to Bernie Sanders. He had the courage and the vision to take on the Democratic establishment. He advocated for everything progressives value: economic justice, social justice, universal healthcare, peace, education, public campaign financing, federal jobs programs, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure.

As Bernie struggled against the Wall Street hacks and conservative Democrats who control the party, we awaited Elizabeth Warren to join us. We believed she would place principal over politics. We believed that if she believed what she maintained she believed, she would join Bernie in the fight for economic and social justice. For the environment. For universal healthcare. For reforming Wall Street and our broken campaign finance system.

But Elizabeth Warren did nothing.

She stayed silent. She was a political coward.

Now, she has endorsed Hillary!

Every progressive in America can feel the knife in their back.

Nina Turner called out Elizabeth Warren. She said that there are no brownie points to be earned in attacking Donald Trump when you haven’t been there for Bernie.

Nina Turner is right. She is also awesome!

Nina had the courage of her convictions in the early days of the primaries when she withdrew her endorsement of Hillary to become a surrogate for Bernie. It was a bold and courageous thing to do. And it earned Nina Turner the admiration of Berners across the country.

In taking down the sell-out Elizabeth Warren, Nina Turner has displaced her in the hearts and minds of progressives.

Nina Turner will be the heir of Bernie’s legacy. She will be our nominee in 2020, if Bernie is not seeking re-election.

  1. Roland, you are sowing seeds of division with this article. Are you a Hillary plant? Or a Trump plant? Any noun would have sufficed to replace the one you used, but you insist on using it amidst 1/3 of your respondents objecting. You are a divider, and in character, you are NOTHING at all like Bernie.

    • Dee, I neither approved your previous comment nor responded to it because you indicated that you would not revisit the blog nor read anything I wrote.
As I mentioned to another reader, I could edit the article and change the word “whore” to another pejorative, even though I find that doing so would amount to self censorship and would in no way change my opinion of Hillary. Even so I would be willing to do so in deference to people who have not had the opportunity to read the article and would be put off by the Facebook share graphic. The problem is that even if I did, no change would be reflected in the share graphic, as it is set in stone once the very first share is made.
I am sorry you are offended, although I am somewhat mystified that you are. Hillary Clinton is what is wrong with the country, our party, and liberalism. She has the blood of innocent women and children on her hands. She has betrayed American women and African American women in particular. i believe she is evil. That you seem more concerned about my description of her character than you are about her character is strange, to say the least.
I would not expect Bernie to use my colorful prose in attacking Hillary for the simple reason that Bernie is convinced that the future of the revolution is within the Democratic party. To fill the void if Hillary is defeated would require him to be seen as a loyal Democrat once Hillary is nominated. He may well be right, but many of us are about done with the Democrats, and a scorched Earth approach is not unreasonable in light of the fraud and rigged primary system we have been battling for a year.

  2. Apparently, adddressing social and systemic sexism is not part of your agenda, which in my ind discredits you as a progressive. Using the term whore is proof of that,
But beyond that, you claim the trade agreement is the single most important issue. And while it is undeniably important, you have just dismissed the importance of racism, homophobia, police violence, lack of access to voting, Climate Change, rape culture (which you are clearly happy to participate in), homeless veterans, abortion access, immigration reform, healthcare, labor unions, etc as less important.
Fact is, if Trump wins, all of those issues will be thrown under the bus and the people affected by it will be far worse off.
So yeah, I don’t think progressive means what you think it does. You pretty much define the exact opposite of progressive.

    • In fact, none of Trump’s positions, progressive or Neanderthal, could possibly be implemented (with the possible exception of abrogating trade agreements- which could be done by executive fiat) just as none of Hillary’s are possible, either. Congress will be deadlocked. Gridlock will be the norm, as it has been for 6 years.

Pragmatism dictates that Trump must win in November so that progressives will sweep in 2018. Democrats will lose in 2018 and again in 2020 if Hillary is president. Which means we will lose reapportionment after the 2020 Census. Which means Republicans will control the House until 2030.

    • Whore is rather inappropriate; the author should have specified the variety for clarification. ‘Corporate whore’ is much more fitting, as referring to her as a standard whore is defamatory to sex workers who are much more ethical and honest.

      • I beg to differ. If one is a whore, one can be called a whore. But all this political correctness is well beside the point. The context in which I called Hilary a whore was in the dictionary definition of the term. It is amazing that some are more concerned with the characterization of what Hillary does than the fact that she actually does it.

I am a Berner…. but lately… the discussion regarding Elizabeth Warren and anyone supporting HRC… is has turned vile and vulgar… I am so NOT supporting this side of the progressive agenda… I think we have a very scary situation here…. Trump could win this thing… I voted for Ralph Nader back in 2000… look what happened there…. this would be sooooooooo much worse than W…..
So to me…. maybe don’t vote for Hilary… vote AGENTS TRUMP!!!

    Liked by 2 people

    • Trump is preferable to Hillary for a number of reasons. Here is why I will vote for Trump over Hillary:

Trade agreements! The most important issue of all. Trade agreements have shuttered 60,000 US factories and cost Americans FIVE MILLION jobs. They allow US corporations to use near slave labor in developing countries, closing US factories and opening them in Mexico, Korea, China, Viet Nam, then selling their products to Americans while making huge profits on labor and the lack of environmental protection. Trade agreements promote barbaric animal husbandry practices and cruel slaughter. They make animal corpses cheaper to produce and slaughter more profitable. They prevent the banning of live exports for slaughter or for shipment for animal sacrifice in the Middle East. They require signatory nations to ban Country of Origin labeling to prevent consumer boycotts and backlash. They override US labor, environmental, and anti-cruelty laws. They permit trade in endangered species and animal parts. They are written by lawyers and lobbyists for multinational corporations, and are the primary reason the establishment is terrified that Donald Trump might become president, as he has promised to abrogate all our trade agreements and force them to be abandoned or re-negotiated to prevent currency manipulation and the losses of American jobs. What that means to multinational corporations is that they will not be able to use cheap foreign labor or avoid US tax laws.

And that is why the establishment is rallying behind Hillary Clinton. She supports trade agreements, and is expected to embrace the Trans Pacific Partnership (which she has temporarily criticized due to Sanders’ challenging her in the Democratic primaries).

Military interventionism and foreign policy! As both a Senator and as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has been a champion of the same belligerent foreign policies espoused by Henry Kissinger. And she has embraced the military interventionist policies of Dick Cheney. She is widely recognized as much more of a hawk than is Barack Obama, and pushed for US involvement in regime changes in Libya and Syria.

She has been a cheerleader for a no-fly zone in Syria, which Putin has warned would be considered an act of war against Russia. She has threatened to bomb Iran. She supports more military aid to Israel and increased arms sales to Saudi Arabia. She supported the military coup in Honduras and CIA drone strikes against civilians in the Middle East.

Even her supporters on the Editorial Board of the New York Times called her more of a hawk than is Donald Trump.

Universal healthcare! Back in the day, Hillary was a staunch supporter of universal healthcare and fought for a single-payer healthcare system while she was First Lady. Then, a funny thing happened after running against Barack Obama in 2008. She had campaigned for universal healthcare in that race, but now opposes it. Why? Could it have anything to do with the millions of dollars she has received from Big Pharmaceutical and the insurance lobby?

Her position now is that huge deductibles and high insurance premiums are perfectly acceptable. She has effectively abandoned poor women and working mothers in favor of lobbyists for the healthcare lobby and the pharmaceutical industry

Hillary opposes universal healthcare. Donald Trump supports universal healthcare.

Legalization of marijuana! Clinton has been bought and paid for by the private prison industry and prison guard unions who do not want to see a reduction ion the prison population. They make money as long as people are incarcerated. And more money with more prisoners. The War on Drugs has been a boon for them.

It has also cost our African American brothers and sisters an entire generation of young black men in prison.

The policies of Bill and Hillary Clinton have devastated black families and destroyed hundreds of thousands of lives.

America is now a prison state.

We are 5% of the world’s population with 20% of the world’s prison population.

No country on Earth imprisons more of its people than does the US. Not China. Not Russia. Not Iran. Not North Korea.

The prison guard unions and the private prison industries invest millions each year opposing the legalization of pot. They want minor offenses to be serious felonies. They oppose any rational drug policies if they means less people in jail and prisons. And Hillary is in their pocket.

Over 2 million Americans are locked up.

      Thank you Bill and Hillary!

BTW, Donald Trump is in favor of legalizing marijuana.

Auditing the Federal Reserve! The Federal Reserve System is one of the world’s great scams. It is a private banking system beyond the control of the US government, but it sets monetary policy for the country. It has never been audited. It has never been investigated. No one knows how much money it makes from control of the US money supply. One thing is certain: Wall Street does not want the Fed to be audited. Curiously, neither does Hillary. Could that have something to do with her receiving millions from Wall Street and the big banks? Citigroup? Goldman Sachs? B of A?

Donald Trump has called for the Fed to be audited. And he is joined by Senator Rand Paul. And Bernie Sanders.

GMOs! Hillary is on the take from Monsanto and DuPont, as can be seen by her opposition to Truth in Labeling legislation to require the disclosure of GMOs (genetically modified organisms) in our food.

Fracking! Fracking (hydraulic fracturing) is a method of obtaining natural gas from stratified granite by injecting pressurized water into the ground and fracturing the substrate rock. The process has some very serious adverse effects upon the safety of drinking water and causing earthquakes on faults.

Fracturing is a major business for Big Oil. While Secretary of State, Hillary’s State Department sold fracking to the world and made billions for her owners in the petroleum industry. The hypocrisy of promoting and supporting fracking while claiming to be an environmentalist is laughable. Fracking causes a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions in its extraction and use.

The loss of Congress for another decade! This may be the most critical reason to oppose Hillary. She will cost us the House of Representatives until 2030.

Every ten years the US government conducts a Census. The Census reveals the populations in each state and provides the data necessary to determine how many congressional seats each state will have in Congress until the next Census.

States that lose population lose House seats, those with increased populaions gains seats at the expense of losing states. It is up to each state how it wishes to draw congressional district boundaries. Through a process known as gerrymandering, the party in control in a state can draw lines in such a way that they hold seats in excess of their proportion of the total voters.

In 2010, Republicans gained enough state governments to be able to control reapportionment. The result has been a Republican controlled House of Representatives even though Democrats, nationwide, have had more votes cast for Democratic candidates for Congress.

As it looks now, Republicans will do the same in 2020. Democrats will be shut out of controlling Congress until at least 2030.

This is something Hillary does not want you to know!

If Trump is elected, Democrats will sweep in 2018 and win enough statehouses and legislative chambers to control reapportionment after the 2020 Census. If Hillary wins, Democrats will be swamped in 2018 by an even greater margin than we were in 2014. Republicans will gain in the House, Senate, governorships and state legislatures. They will retain control of enough states to control reapportionment, and will gerrymander the House as they did in 2010.

If Hillary Clinton is elected, we can expect Bernie’s political revolution to be on hiatus until Hillary leaves office. She will be as obstructive to progressives in the Democratic party as Obama has been. Wall Street hacks and political chameleons will be placed in positions of influence and control within the party and the Clinton administration. The DNC will continue to be an arm of the Clinton Foundation. Wall Street will have carte blanche in appointments to the administration and will populate regulatory agencies and Departments. Bribery will determine cabinet positions and federal policies, just as it has for the past several decades.

Except for those lobbyists and political hacks who will get patronage positions if Hillary wins, no intelligent, reasoning Democrat, progressive or conservative, should vote for Hillary in November.

She might win, but she will destroy the Democratic party in doing so. Democrats will not control Congress and the White House until at least 2030.

Wall Street reform! Hillary is the recipient of bribes from all over Wall Street. Her legendary $225,000 twenty minute speeches are a mere drop in the bucket. She is owned by Wall Street. And we can expect that the revolving door between industry and government will keep on revolving if she is elected.

For decades it has been the practice of presidents to name bankers to run Treasury, oil executives named to Energy, lobbyists to Commerce, Big Ag alums to Interior and Agriculture, Big Pharma lobbyists to the EPA, etc.

      The entire system is corrupt.

Tossing Hillary aside will help to clean it up.

A vote for Hillary is a vote for the status quo.

Personally, there is precious little of the status quo which I embrace or support.

      Time to clean house.

The first trash to toss out is Hillary Clinton and every single one of her cohorts in office.

  4. Roland, the use of the term whore, while it may be apt, detracts from the rest of a great article. It’s unnecessary to get your message across and it only polarizes. It gives the detractors an excuse to not read it or to dismiss the message entirely.
You may find it justifiable but it’s use does not help.
At the very least, the term corporate whore is not gender specific, although it would still be a poor choice.
Better to just use venal our unscrupulous person as the descriptor and let it ride.

But I think Warren is apprehensive about running due to her NATIVE background fiasco and who knows what new information might be elicited that would not fare well for Warren. That might be the reason she has been somewhat reticent.

    • Hillary belongs to prison not as a candidate for the highest office in Government. This time the people have enough to vote for the same Status Quo and with widening social injustice, global warming, unending war,Government corruption, and widening Income Inequality. I am definitely certain that millions of Bernie supporters will write in his name or will vote for a Green party with Dr. Jill Stein if Bernie will not run as a write in candidate. Every one should realize that this is the most corrupt election in modern history and the system has been rigged dominantly with Democratic establishment. The Democrats are playing a very dangerous game by anointing Hillary Clinton as their presidential candidate. She epitomizes the double-dealing of the college-educated elites, those who speak the feel-your-pain language of ordinary men and women, who hold up the bible of political correctness, while selling out the poor and the working class to corporate power.
The Obama and the Clinton’s administration were the epitome of Democratic Establishment Greed,Lies,Hypocrisy, and Dysfunction destroying American Democracy with the name of the party. Both the GOP and the Democratic establishment know that by electing Hillary there’s nothing going to change the system that had made them rich and powerful. Until 2016, there has been no alternative to neoliberalism in American politics. Both the democrats and the republicans have consistently fielded neoliberal nominees, and the differences between them have largely been about social issues and foreign policy. Many of the most damaging economic policies have been enacted by democrats, such as welfare reform, the Commodities Futures Modernization Act, the repeal of Glass-Steagall, the Budget Control Act of 2011, and so on. People allow democrats to get away with hurting poor and working people because they falsely assume that democrats are reliably on their side. Reagan and Bush could never enact welfare reform–only Clinton could do something that horrifying.

But now, for the first time in 40 years, there are candidates running who are not neoliberal and offer real ideological alternatives. Bernie Sanders offers to return us to the left egalitarian Keynesianism that made America great in the 50’s and 60’s, and he even promises to include marginalized groups in the prosperity this time. Breaking up the big banks, tough new financial regulations, the financial transaction tax, a 50% top rate of tax, union expansion, huge infrastructure stimulus, $15 minimum wage, tuition-free college, single payer healthcare–these are policies designed to restore Americans of all classes, races, genders, and other backgrounds to prosperity. Hillary Clinton is against all of these policies. She either does not understand the economic problems everyday Americans face, or she does not care. This is why the “unite behind Clinton” strategy is so short-sighted. It was Clinton and politicians like her from both parties that created the stagnation that led to the anger that gave rise to Trump. If we unite around Clinton and abandon the robust left egalitarian dissent Sanders has been leading, we will continue to feed the growth of the right nationalists while at the same time stifling the development of our own alternative, ensuring that in the long-run the right nationalists triumph as the successor ideology to neo liberalism.

    • I understand..it is an offensive word to me too, and perhaps not well thought out. But the technical definition of the word “whore” in the accepted urban dictionary use…one who exchanges favors for money….encompasses a lot of definitions of “favors”. Hillary has done a lot of favors for Wall St. (case in point, she strongly supported and still supports husband Bill’s rescinding Glass Steagall, an action which allowed Wall St to devastate our economy…and she insists Dodd-Frank is effective in regulating Wall St. when it clearly is not. They have grown even bigger, since Wall St. insiders and analysts say that AT THIS MOMENT, because financial institutions have continued those same risky practices, they are invested in ten times the amount that caused the ’07-’08 crash. Hillary also did WS a “favor” by sending Goldman Sachs, Exxon-Mobil, and others that email telling them, “You can make some money on this” in reference to the Iraq War being “A business opportunity,” this done before all the blood has even settled into the sand. Then that $10 million Saudi “donation” to the Clinton Foundation appears to have greased the wheels of US sales of weapons and F-15 fighter jets to the Saudis, in conflict with the US policy of refusing to contract defense materiels with the Saudis and other countries on the basis of their anti-humanitarian practices. The deal with the fighter jets closed within days of the “donation”. So….
Try to see the high road in this. Bernie would NEVER call someone a whore. But the right of Freedom of Speech is a given.

    • A whore is a woman or a man who sells herself/himself for money. Cannot think of a more appropriate term for her, as that is exactly what she does and is. Political correctness seems more important to you than facts, evidence, policy, or positions. If you read my articles you would know that I use the term for men who sell themselves as well. For his positions on TPP, drone strikes, Arctic drilling, supporting Debbie Wassermann Schultz, Monsanto, appointing Wall Street insiders to his administration, I have used the same epithet for Barack Obama.

  15. Other than Nina Turner not endorsing Clinton, do you have anything else to say about her? You gave away your stand with the first sentence. Then you offer nothing else substantial. Except that you care about animals as well. I am afraid this is both my first and last visit to this site.

  16. Please remove the term “whore” from the first sentence and replace it with a less sexist term like “warmonger” or “liar” or “monster.” We need to attack Clinton’s policies and actions, but sexist slurs attack and harm all women. Thanks.

  17. I agree with this. But I am afraid that Sanders too will support Clinton for “the good of the party” in which case he too has no principles. I hope I am wrong.

    • He certainly will. But I do not believe it will be for lack of principles. I believe Bernie will endorse Clinton because he believes it is the most logical pathway to changing the Democratic party. Were I advising him, I would provide the same counsel. What is unspoken is that a Hillary defeat would substantially improve the odds that Bernie’s revolution will continue.

      • I see his endorsement as an approval of her and her policies and her deserving of being President. Her 4 or 8 years will be another nightmare. I think Sanders might do the expedient thing so he can remain in the corrupt Democratic Party.. He should join the Green Party to show his consistence….. we will see, but i remain pessimistic.

      • I certainly believe he will not HAVE to endorse her. He will emerge the Democratic nominee if the DNC has a brain cell left in their heads. If they have to build a feckin’ WALL around the convention center, then it is clear that WE have THEIR backs against it.
