Thought of the Day. Bernie was right. January 30, 2017

Today’s Thought:

Bernie’s strategy has been proven to have been correct. Had he run as a Green, Trump would still be president and the progressive movement would have written its obituary.

Armory Notes:

I am unaware of any other blog with the Armory’s mission of radicalizing the animal movement. I certainly hope I am not alone, and that there are similar sentiments being expressed by comrades unknown to me.

If you know of other blogs dedicated to animal rights and the defeat of capitalism, please comment with a link.

  1. it’s not a blog, but in response to your Armory notes, i wanted to mention the Youtube channel “a privileged vegan” by Marine Janine. she makes videos from a leftist vegan perspective. also be aware of the work of A. Breeze Harper, who organizes conferences about Veganism and Anti-Racism, and wrote the book “Sistah Vegan” which included black women’s perspectives on veganism. also there was an old blog called The Vegan Ideal, which you can still find archived; it was written by a trans woman who also questioned neoliberalism and its influence in the animal welfare movement, etc.

  2. Bernie, disappointed me greatly. He started so different, so fresh and then he made 180 degree turn and, like a pendulum swinging the other way, went the exact opposite direction when he started promoting the despicable madam hillary. I think if he had just stayed quiet it would have been easier to forgive him, at least from my point of view.

    • Sanders was playing the long game. He knew that a third party effort was futile. I have no doubt he prayed that Hillary would lose. But in order to keep the progressive movement viable in the party, he embraced the nominee, as he surely will require when he or another progressive is the nominee in 2020

  3. If all the state Primaries and Caucasus were open, Bernie would have won. I worked in the CA Primary, as an election official and observed, that only 3 of 11 ballots, had the presidential candidates on them. A large portion of the voters, like Independents could not cast their vote for President. Why isn’t it illegal, to have a closed Primary? Hillary got 57%, but Bernie could have received the 57%, he needed in CA, to win the Primaries, if they were open.

    • Parties can develop and enforce their own rules for party participation in primaries and caucuses. They can limit voting in their primaries to registered members, which is all the more reason to register as a Democrat to influence the process. It blows my mind that there are so many people who proudly claim to be independent and who then vote for one of the major parties. They forfeit their power to influence who is nominated, and then are stuck with choices the parties make.

    • It would have been mathematically impossible for Sanders to have captured 270 electoral votes. He might have finished first, but even if he did, unless he won a majority of the Electoral College, the race would have been kicked into the House. The House would have elected Trump, as Republicans controlled more state delegations than did the Democrats. And the Greens controlled none.
