At Democratic Retreat, Chiefs of Staff Coached on How to Schmooze With Lobbyists

From Justice Democrats:

Talk about selling out. The Intercept recently uncovered that the DCCC dedicated a full session of their annual retreat to coaching Congressional staffers on how to talk to K Street lobbyists — and then just a few hours later, invited a bunch of those lobbyists to meet the primed staffers for an end-of-retreat happy hour.

Here’s the reality: every second that members of Congress spend talking to K Street lobbyists and corporate donors is time that they’re not spending advocating for working-class people and their constituents. Wealthy elites are taking away the representation that everyday folks should have in our democratic system.

This is why we fight tooth and nail to end Citizens United, reform our campaign system, and ensure that every Justice Democrat candidate refuses every cent of corporate PAC donations. But we’re still competing against people who are more than willing to take every dollar from Walmart, Aetna, Purdue, and BP.

The DCCC isn’t just standing in the way of progress anymore. They’re dedicated resources — retreats, trainings, time — towards safeguarding the old way that Washington worked. They are actively in favor of the backroom dealing, the lobbyist control, and the corporate pandering.

Just look at their priorities. The DCCC still works with vendors with clients that are spending millions to undermine a Green New Deal and Medicare for All, or keep massive corporate clients that are literally killing our planet. And yet, their blacklist only contains staffers and vendors who work with progressive primary challengers?

Why is BP more acceptable than Marie Newman, who’s trying to take down the Democratic co-chair of the pro-life caucus? Why is Aetna less of a problem than a replacement for Henry Cuellar, who’s taken millions from private prison and detention centers?

Before the Armory came into being, I was publishing Notes on my Facebook profile which I called political grenades, weapons to be wielded in the war for animal rights. Those modest apothegms and observations have grown to over twenty five hundred grenades and articles.

In addition to regular articles, the Armory has begun publishing Politically Incorrect, an ongoing, daily stream of grenades that I hope will be shared extensively.

Most will be provocative, all will be irreverent, many seditious, and each will be designed to hit people upside the head.

The purpose of the Armory is to challenge people to think, to question what they believe, to weigh what they value.

To question authority, society, law, government, religion, politics, and their own worldviews.

I believe the Armory to be the most radical and incendiary blog for universal rights to be found online. Its mission is to radicalize the animal movement and to advocate for socialist revolution.

You may not agree with me, as most do not, but you owe it to the animals to consider them in your own life and in your priorities.

And if you are a comrade you owe it to the animals to share the Armory far and wide.

Solidarity!

Armory Notes:

I am unaware of any other blog with the Armory’s mission of radicalizing the animal movement. I certainly hope I am not alone, and that there are similar sentiments being expressed by comrades unknown to me.

If you know of other blogs dedicated to animal rights and the defeat of capitalism, please comment with a link.
